Alan Fetterman is recognized as one of the
leading forces igniting a new art scene in our region. His
works are highly sought by collectors and selling 40 to 50
paintings from a solo-exhibition has become typical of his
shows. The artist is a sculptor and poet and a Kay Scholar of
Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania.
Alan Fetterman’s painterly style, whether
emotionally impressionistic or a highly charged abstraction, are
works created through the value of personal journey inherent of
the artist’s life.
As he writes on the importance of artistic
growth:
“No matter the medium, an artist’s creative keystone is always
under pressure, and remaining true to self is the optimum value
of strength for the committed artist. Surviving exclusively as
an artist requires every effort one can muster. There is no net
and the stakes are high. The more diversified the artist the
more complex the scene, but for me it simply suits my skin.”
He has traveled abroad extensively in order to
expand the scope of his abilities and simultaneously remains
directly connected to the Philadelphia regional art scene. With
19 solo-exhibitions throughout the area and a longstanding
membership with the Philadelphia Sketch Club, Fetterman holds
dear his connection to the city of Brotherly Love.
“Philadelphia is a pillar in the arena of historical art, but
now there is also a new and powerful surge of emotional and
intellectual art rising in and around our city. It is the
life-committed artist that will prove this true. I function out
of the complete artistic lexicon; in that I demand from my self
the most I am able. My core is based in the humanities and the
sentience of nature that surrounds us, my artistic reflection
draws from that.”
